Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined over 50 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
